Christian Musicals from The Faithful Troubadour Publications
THE FAITHFUL TROUBADOUR PUBLICATIONS is a Gospel-centered publishing ministry, specializing in writing Christian musical scripts that bring Biblical truths to life in a relatable, modern way. Our aim is to connect cast and audience to Christ through the art of musical theatre in partnership with schools, churches, and theatres around the world.

Developing New Works

Developing with The Faithful Troubadour

We go through all the usual steps:
  • Brainstorming
  • Outlining
  • Writing
  • Songwriting
  • Editing
  • Deleting
  • Read-Throughs
  • Re-Writing
  • More Editing
But every work gets to a point when the script needs to put to the test. The musical needs to be put into the hands of directors and the characters need to be given life by actors. We, as writers, need to let our musical go for a test drive and see what happens!

And not all things will work, and that is the most wonderful thing about collaboration. In sharing our songs and stories with others, we are able recieve feedback that will make our musicals more relatable and engaging for those who will experience them.

We know we cannot write an amazing show on our own, and we are so thankful for those who come alongside us with encouragement and feedback.

I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, because of your partnership in the Gospel from the first day until now.
Philippians 1:3-5
For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them.
Romans 12:4-6a

Get Involved

Read-Throughs are a wonderfully insightful experience in which a group of actors and directors sit together to read through the entire script, with music if it is a musical. This is a great way to test run the dialogue and 'sound' of the show, as well as get initial feedback on the story, characters, and themes.

Workshopping is equally invaluable as it puts actors on the stage and firmly into a scene, with a director in charge. This is a great way to see how the script translates from word to action, to gauge how easy the songs are to learn and sing, and to really dig into the characters.
Workshopping includes Recording Demos. Demos allow us to get feedback from singers, as well as share new music before a musical has been produced.

Both read-throughs and workshops are highly valuable for us, but both require writers to step out of their bubble and find collaborators. They are also great opportunities for other artists and students alike to be involved in the process.

That's where you come in! We are always looking for more partners to help us develop new works, whether that be read-throughs or workshops. Partnering with The Faithful Troubadour to develop a new musical is a zero-commitment opportunity to be involved in our mission.
[Note: Developing a new work is not producing or licensing a show.]

Joan: Faith of the Martyr
This musical is an inspirational biography based on the life of Joan of Arc, the 16-year-old girl who led France during the 100 Years War with a theme of courageous faith. We have a first draft done and plan to publish in 2021.

This musical is an original story based in a fantastical, turn-of-the-century, world where a young woman aspires to be an inventor presenting at the World's Faire. We are still discovering the story as we write songs and scenes, asking the question "why do we do what we do as Christians?"

This musical is a satirical re-imagining of Hans Christian Anderson's classic story, The Red Shoes, featuring a theatre troupe and the unexpected actress who is cast as the understudy for the lead character, pursuing themes involving confidence, arrogance, and humility. We are still in the conceptualizing phase for this musical.
